I don’t think it’s in the democratic party’s best interests to pit these two against each other, especially now. We need absolutely every single person involved in pursuing the unimaginable: we need to turn every county in Texas blue. To do that we need them BOTH on the general election ballot
I didn't read the entire piece. I am shocked that there is so little actual support for Crockett’s Senate race.
She will be the most honest Texas Senator that we have had in my lifetime.
She may be narcissistic but aren't all politicians?
I hate that she accepts crypto as I don't recognize it as a form of currency. If she is truly into it, she should issue her own Texan coins.
As for her platform I'm assuming it aligns with the DNC. Later this month I expect to see and hear better speeches. Because she is very bright! She seems to be on top of everything going on.
It’s a no for me. She’s a “bomb thrower” first, second, and third. DC is in dire need of people who can, and want, to govern. The best thing blue can do in 2026 is elect people who want to govern first, second, and third. Enough of these social media candidates.
I guess the question is what is she trying to accomplish and what will she accomplish. Is the Democratic Party broken? Sure. Has anyone figured out how to reinvent it? No. So is this about Attention? Raising issues?
It is not about winning as she won’t. She is more useful in the House where a cha ge if control is possible
The Texas political landscape is, like all local political landscapes, unique. We are going into an election with an incredible amount at stake for our state. Yes, the US Senate is very important. But, Texas is not just a stage for political hobbyists all over the country to argue about. I, a Texas voter, am contemplating what it will mean to me personally to have no voice in the Senate unless a Democrat is elected. There are a lot of primary sources available with the details of our voter profiles, the four regions with different cultures and economic needs. There is the fact that the Texas Democratic Party is trying to rise from the dead and put non-existent grassroots infrastructure in place available for you to read about.
Crockett v. Talarico is not just a hypothetical to us. We cannot allow Republicans to drive our issues and frame our candidates. Republicans have literally billions of dollars of dark money from Christian Nationalists, reactionary business men and various other nefarious actors. Their willingness to lie, cheat and steal their way to a win is completely unrestrained. Let's try and avoid the kind of bloody internal battle that keeps voters at home and keeps Republicans in power.
I want someone who understands Texas. I want someone who is integrated into the Texas Democratic Party more than the National Democratic Party. Our state party is forging an independent path because we have been very ill-served by the National party. I want someone who isn't playacting for a national audience which does not get a vote here. Why? Because that kind of fame is used against us by Republicans. It gives them clips to take out of context and bash us over the head with. I want someone who isn't just going to get mad, they are going to figure out how to bring Republicans to heel in Washington in reality not online. Internet stunts don't cut it.
It is early days. May the best candidate win. BTW, we have a whole slate of very important statewide races here, including Governor, Lt. Governor, Comptroller, State Board of Education, Texas legislature, etc. Getting as many Democrats in power as possible is what will mitigate the harm Republicans have done to us. It's great the Senate Race is good for national conversations. But that's not all there is to it.
Now, let's get to work and keep our eyes on the prize. If you feel like donating or volunteering for Texas candidates, think in terms of helping the Texas citizen. Ultimately, what is good for Texas and Texans will also be good for the US Congress.
I think she can win. She very well deserves it, and, we all grow. She has the intelligibility to grow in the right direction. She's got more education, and she's got the what my auntie used to say, the, huutspah, the stamina and the credentials.
I think we’re about to get an up close and personal view of what racism in the Democratic Party looks like! Did you have a similar post for everyone to weigh in on James Talarico? I bet you didn’t!
That’s not the point! The point is an Everyone Weighs In session was not set up for James Talarico. The honor of microscopic scrutiny was reserved for the black female candidate. Just a coincidence? I don’t think so.
Crockett is one of the most famous democrats in fhe country and Talarico isn't. Why are you promoting a roundtable discussion of Talarico instead of one for Crockett? I think you have some biases you need to sort out.
The problem is she’s the only politician being put under the microscope for scrutiny. It’s interesting that other candidates aren’t subject to the same level of scrutiny / criticism.
This type of thought process is why we have a convicted felon president. And I see no one has learned the lesson from the 2024 presidential election.
So we should just shut down conversation about an exciting woman of color only a week after she announces her candidacy and instead focus on talking about her whiter, male opponent? I see right through your racist agenda, and it is exactly this refocusing that gave Donald Trump such a large microphone in the first place. Shame on you.
Again, Jasmine Crockett is arguably the current most famous Democrat from Texas. To shoot up in stardom so quickly relative to your time in office is impressive and no one here is denying that in fact many are commending it. However, anyone who reaches that level of stardom so quickly is naturally going to be more scrutinized. Jasmine Crockett routinely goes viral for grilling her colleagues + agency leaders and is frequently mentioned by the president. Meanwhile, Talarico in comparison is nowhere near as well known despite having a nearly half year head start. The fact that Crockett is being scrutinized and analyzed seriously in this manner instead of being immediately written off is actually the clearest refutation of your charges of racial bias.
Nope! That’s not the reason Lawrence. You can tell yourself that to justify your actions, but it doesn’t pan out.
Again, racism is alive and well in the Democratic Party. This is why we have a convicted felon as president. It’s why the Dem establishment cares more about the swing voter, than their own base. And I see that Dems still have not learned the lesson from the 2024 presidential election.
America will suffer the consequences of their racist views—until that lesson is learned.
James Talarico launched months ago and the general consensus is that he’s pretty good aside from the fact that he took money from Miriam Adelson during his tx state house run. He’s pretty much an unknown entity otherwise.
Meanwhile Jasmine Crockett has risen from garden variety no-name freshman dem to one of the most prominent democrats in the country, with lots of media coverage + an actual congressional voting record. She is naturally going to draw more eyes and discussion.
It’s sad that you’re reducing Crockett - who I will acknowledge is a very fiery and strong Black woman even if I disagree with her politically and have concerns about her lack of solid policy positions - to a victim of racism, when I am 100% sure she’s capable of defending herself against thoughtful criticism without reducing it to everyone being mean to her due to her race. You are very much missing the mark with this tactic.
Jasmine Crockett’s suitability as a Senate candidate is being publicly debated. How many other campaigns for the 2026 primaries have faced similar discussions about whether their candidate was truly fit for the office they sought?
I think the response to that question is what’s really sad.
Thank you for participating in the conversation about the conversation, to the extent a substack post can mirror what a move lively in-person discussion would be. Per your critique of the existence of this edition of Everyone Weighs In, I would respectfully invite you to read previous editions that focused on Graham Platner, Bernie Sanders, AOC, Tim Walz, a generic third party candidate, and the PT Anderson film One Battle After Another.
IF Crockett were the only figure being debated in this series, I would be more sympathetic to your critique. But she is not the first and will not be the last.
The rumor going around is that Jasmine Crockett is the one with an 'Israel-first' record. But when you actually look, her voting history doesn't show that. Then you check James Talarico’s record—and there it is: not only votes consistently in favor of Israel in the Texas House, but also financial ties to pro-Israel PACs linked to the Adelson family.
Supporting Israel alone isn't the issue. It’s the combination of his votes plus the Adelson-linked donor support—while false claims swirl about his opponent—that makes this feel off. Why is the narrative aimed at her, when the pattern points to him? Something doesn't add up, and it's making me question what's really going on here.
You didn’t set up an Everyone Weighs In session for James Talarico, did you? There’s a reason why you didn’t. Everyone needs to stop pretending it’s balanced coverage—it’s clearly not.
Good job Evan! You’re operating more like mainstream media everyday!
Goodness, off the top of my head, Graham Platner, who has been subjected to every manner of invasive questioning of his past, his internet activity, his background, his political evolution?
You’re done because you’re incorrect and can’t refute anything being said OR admit that your kneejerk reactions are reductive, telling of your own personal biases, and require some reflection on your part as to the type of informed citizen advocate you want to be. If you want to accuse someone of something as terrible as racism, please bring a better argument and the ability to self-reflect next time.
I completely forgot to send in my thoughts as my work and EOY housekeeping has consumed me. As such, I will leave them here:
While Jasmine Crockett has the political and media savvy to absolutely unleash the pent up fury of the base on Republicans whenever a camera is present, underneath the surface there is much to be desired. A two-term Representative (once appointed, so only one real election win under her belt) in a heavily blue district with her centrist politics is not anything we haven’t seen before. She is just as servile to Israel and monied interests as any establishment Democrat, including her current primary opponent (looking at you Moneybagg Miriam).
However, where she also shines in addition to her vitriol towards the right is that unlike other members of her ideological cohort, such as Chuck Schumer, Abigail Spanberger, or Hakeem Jeffries, she does not appear to intensely despise the progressive wing of her party. While the aforementioned patricians routinely smear the left and actively court the right + special interests, Crockett has lauded members of the Squad such as Ilhan Omar and AOC, and to my knowledge has never succumbed to the anti-Bernie mind virus that has been flaring up for over a decade in the Democratic Party.
Therefore, it is truly bewildering to see the constant belittling she receives from Election Twitter as well as the progressive wing, especially since most of it focuses little on her very tangible policy flaws, and more to do with her affect and admittedly tiresome self-promo (I will note here that this is no different from several other politicians both D and R), which is coincidentally how the right chooses to attack her, albeit with much more racist diction.
I leave you all with this: I am in no way saying that it is unacceptable to criticize Crockett; in fact I encourage it as her stance on Israel is UNIQUELY horrible especially for someone who has sworn off AIPAC cash. Hone in on that + her other establishment policies, and leave the non-material attacks to the right.
This thought process is why we have a criminal in the White House. You know the thought process that a black woman just doesn’t deserve that job. She’s not quite up to it—and what about those horrible Israel views?
This is why we’re losing our country. Because of racist, and also sexists beliefs. This is your part in it. This thought process is your contribution to the downfall of our country.
So even after reading the third paragraph where I applauded her for not being hostile to her more progressive colleagues, and second-to-last where I criticized people attacking her for frankly racially charged reasons, you *still* think I am judging her unfairly because she’s a Black woman. Interesting.
Fun Congress Critter, smart, witty and entertaining, perfect for the House. Unelectable state wide in Texas. Do not nominate her.
I don’t think it’s in the democratic party’s best interests to pit these two against each other, especially now. We need absolutely every single person involved in pursuing the unimaginable: we need to turn every county in Texas blue. To do that we need them BOTH on the general election ballot
I think she would make a better pundit and podcaster.
I didn't read the entire piece. I am shocked that there is so little actual support for Crockett’s Senate race.
She will be the most honest Texas Senator that we have had in my lifetime.

I wish her the best!
Texascoin! Now that’s an idea
Will you tell her or shall I?
It’s a no for me. She’s a “bomb thrower” first, second, and third. DC is in dire need of people who can, and want, to govern. The best thing blue can do in 2026 is elect people who want to govern first, second, and third. Enough of these social media candidates.

jasmine Crockett is JUST WHO WE NEED NOW - she will speak out - step out - HOLD Trump-n-company ACCOUNTABLE !!!
I think we’re about to get an up close and personal view of what racism in the Democratic Party looks like! Did you have a similar post for everyone to weigh in on James Talarico? I bet you didn’t!
We both know the conversation will roll on. It’s part of who you are. Shame on you! You’re the one with the racist agenda!
I weighed in on Talerico in my section, and had the same criticisms of him that I have of Crockett
That’s not the point! The point is an Everyone Weighs In session was not set up for James Talarico. The honor of microscopic scrutiny was reserved for the black female candidate. Just a coincidence? I don’t think so.
James is much less interesting as a candidate as far as a political and cultural phenomenon. He’s kind of what you’d expect
Crockett is one of the most famous democrats in fhe country and Talarico isn't. Why are you promoting a roundtable discussion of Talarico instead of one for Crockett? I think you have some biases you need to sort out.
No, I think you’re the one with the bias, maybe a racial bias?
You're the one wanting the discourse centered away from Crockett! What exactly is your problem with taking black women politicians seriously?
The problem is she’s the only politician being put under the microscope for scrutiny. It’s interesting that other candidates aren’t subject to the same level of scrutiny / criticism.

your avatar is of the drone strike president, opinion invalid
And your hero is a murderous pedophile! 😂😂😂
are you implying mr. trunt is my hero? were you dropped on the head as a child?
Bye!👋
Get lost, racist!
It's very disingenuous to respond to very reasonable criticisms about Crockett with claims of racism.
It may be to you—but it’s absolutely correct!
Because the Texas senate race has not had that much attention on it until now
No Joey Pipes that’s NOT the reason!
I'm sure everyone would pitch in for a Talarico article if Evan puts out the call. Crockett announced her campaign this week, so it's topical.
The question is why hasn’t he put out such a post? I think we all know the reason why he hasn’t.
James Talarico launched months ago and the general consensus is that he’s pretty good aside from the fact that he took money from Miriam Adelson during his tx state house run. He’s pretty much an unknown entity otherwise.
